Squad Description

This squad is made up of swimmers who wish to pursue swimming to County and Regional level, with the view to develop and have the desire to perform at National level. Swimmers in this squad will have already qualified for Regional competitions or have the potential to compete at Regional level. These swimmers will have the support of their parents/guardians and will be willing to attend all sessions as directed by the Head Coach and working towards at least 75% of available sessions.


Swim England Long Term Athlete Development Plan

  • Stage 3 – Training to Train: Building the Engine
  • Stage 4 – Training to Compete: Optimising the Engine.


Qualifying Criteria

  • Be able to swim a test set of 5 x 400m F/C in a swim/rest time of 6.00,
  • Be able to swim 100m on all four strokes in accordance with Swim England stroke laws and must understand how to use the pace clock and take their own times from it.
  • Be able to swim 15 x 50m Free @ 45
  • Be able to kick 5 x 100m Free @ 2.00
  • Be able to kick 10 x 50 No 1 Stroke @ 60
  • Possess good understanding of Swim England Stroke Laws for all strokes including Individual Medley.
  • Swim a test set of 3 x 400m IM in a swim/rest time of 7.30 and 5 x 200m IM in 3.30.
  • Be willing to represent the club at National Arena League, County, Regional and National competitions and to compete in designated level 1 and 2 Licensed Open Meets

To remain in this squad swimmers are expected to:

  • Have the technical skills and ability
  • Show right approach and strength (mentally and physically) to both in competition and training.
  • Have the correct training approach and ethos, be prepared to accept a lifestyle change, and maintain it.
  • Be able to accept accountability, responsibility and independence for results in competition and start to take ownership of their training program and swimming.
  • Keep a record of comments and thoughts on sessions and meets, current Seasonal and Personal Best times and competition results.
  • To respect ALL coaching staff, have a willingness to learn and keep good lane discipline.
  • Plus support all aspects of Eastleigh SC from the coaching staff, teammates in training and competition and follow the competitive and social programme.
