Temporary Suspension Of Club Activities

Frequently Asked Questions

Training for all squads and all learn2swim lessons were suspended on 18 March 2020 due to coronavirus.
FAQ last updated: 20 March 2020

Why has the club suspended training now?

The safety of our swimmers, coaches, volunteers and parents is our overriding concern. Following the governments advice relating to social distancing, we feel that the only sensible action is to suspend club activities.

Does this affect all swimmers at the club?

Yes, all squads and all Learn 2 Swim sessions are covered by this suspension.

What does this mean for those who have entered open meets?

The meet organisers for the Vanessa Knight, Bournemouth and Portsmouth Northsea SC meets have confirmed they will be cancelling these meets and will be refunding any fees already paid. We will not invoice any of our swimmers for these meets.

What about those that were hoping for Regional and National entries?

The Regional Championships have been cancelled. The National Championships are currently still going ahead but Swim England have changed the qualification window. More information can be found online at https://www.swimming.org/swimengland/

What about the Eastleigh Club Championships?

This event, which was planned for June, will now be postponed. We will advise the new date when we can.

Will we still need to pay monthly training fees?

At this time no further payments will be taken. Once we are able to confirm a date to restart training we will apply a “credit” for the remaining part of March. For Learn 2 Swim lessons, we will apply the credit to the next term.

How will this affect swimmers training cycles?

Unfortunately as we do not know how long the suspension will last we cannot give an accurate answer to this however the coaches will ensure that when we do restart the training reflects the fact that some fitness will be lost.

Can swimmers train at home?

We will look to set challenges and exercises that swimmers can complete at home. We understand that Swim England will also look to post video challenges for home training.

How can we keep in touch?

We will post updates via our website and through our social media channels on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We will also send newsletters when any significant changes are advised.

Can the club survive?

Absolutely! We hold a reserve fund for such emergencies and the committee will be holding a call once a fortnight to review and monitor changes. Our partners at Places Leisure Eastleigh and Oaklands Community Pool have confirmed we will not lose our pool time and have agreed to waive charges.

What about the October swimming camp?

At this stage we will take no further instalments until we can confirm if this will proceed although we would recommend putting the money to one side as we hope to be able to either progress as planned or to arrange an alternative date. If it is necessary to cancel, there may be a small loss of deposit on the flight but we will update you as this becomes clearer.

I’ve ordered kit, where is it?

All kit orders will be held in storage until we are able to recommence training. If you need the kit urgently, please let us know and we will make arrangements with you.
